Henry John Stephen Smith (1826–83)

Irish mathematician. Fellow of Balliol College, Oxford, 1849; lecturer in mathematics, 1850–73. Savilian Professor of geometry, University of Oxford, 1860. Fellow of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, 1873. Member of the Royal Commission on Scientific Instruction, 1870–5. FRS 1861.
