Edward Smith Stanley, 13th Earl of Derby (1775–1851)

Politician and naturalist. Whig MP for Preston, 1796–1812; Lancashire, 1812–32. President of the Linnean Society of London, 1828–34. President of the Zoological Society of London, 1831–51. Formed a private menagerie at Knowsley Hall, near Liverpool.
