James Startin (1806–72)
Surgeon and skin specialist. Trained at St Bartholomew’s, London, and practised at the General Hospital and Town Infirmary, Birmingham, before going to France to study at the Hôpital Saint-Louis and Montpellier, specialising in skin diseases. Became the senior surgeon at the Hospital for Diseases of the Skin, Blackfriars; also established a private consultancy at 3 Savile Row, Piccadilly. Member, Royal College of Surgeons of England, 1828; fellow, 1852.
