William Stimpson (1832–72)

American naturalist and conchologist. Naturalist to the North Pacific Exploring Expedition, 1853–6. Worked in the invertebrate department of the Smithsonian Institution, 1856–65. Director of the Chicago Academy of Sciences, 1865–72.
