Paul Edmund de Strzelecki (1797–1873)

Polish-born explorer in Australia. Travelled widely in North and South America, 1831–4. From 1839, explored Australia and produced a large geological map of the area he covered as well as writing a physical description of the country. After his return to England in 1843, became a British subject and did philanthropic work. Knighted, 1869. FRS 1853.
