William Swale (1816–75)

Nurseryman. Emigrated from Norfolk to Canterbury, New Zealand, 1857. Wrote for the Gardener’s Chronicle. Possibly employed by William Wilson, nurseryman, of Canterbury. Owner of the Kilmore Street nursery from 1859, and of the Avonside Botanical and Horticultural Garden from 1860. Specialised in trees and native plants.
