Curator and populariser of science. With John Gunn, established the Norwich Geological Society in 1864. Fellow of the Geological Society of London, 1869. Curator of the Ipswich Corporation Museum, 1872–93, giving an annual free lecture series in the natural sciences. Editor, Hardwicke’s Science-Gossip, 1872–93. Fellow of the Linnean Society of London, 1873.
