D’Arcy Wentworth Thompson (1860–1948)

Zoologist and physiologist. Studied medicine at Edinburgh University and natural sciences at Cambridge University. Worked with Michael Foster and F. M. Balfour. Professor of biology (later natural history), University College, Dundee, 1884. Senior professor of natural history, United College, St Andrews University, 1917. Author of On growth and form (1917). FRS 1916.
