Carl Peter Thunberg (1743–1828)

Swedish botanist. A protégé of Carolus Linnaeus. Accompanied a Dutch merchant vessel to Japan, spending time in Cape Colony, India, and Ceylon en route, 1772–9. Botanical demonstrator, Uppsala University, 1779; professor of botany, 1784.
