William Thomas Locke Travers (1819–1903)

Irish-born lawyer, politician, and naturalist. Emigrated to New Zealand in 1849. Established a legal practice in Nelson in 1849, and later in Christchurch in 1860. Founding member, New Zealand Institute. Collected plants for the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, 1860–80, and wrote papers on agriculture, botany, geology, and anthropology.
