Daniel Treadwell (1791–1871)

American inventor. Trained as a silversmith but preferred experimenting with machinery. Patented a power printing press in 1826; by 1835, had secured several patents for his machines for spinning hemp. President, Boston Mechanics Institute, 1829. Appointed Rumford professor, Harvard University, 1834.
