Walter Calverley Trevelyan (1797–1879)

Naturalist. Studied geology under William Buckland at University College, Oxford. A believer in phrenology; opposed capital punishment and flogging, advocated state education, and condemned alcohol, tobacco, and opium. Succeeded to the family estates at Wallington, Northumberland, in 1846; maintained natural history and ethnology collections there.
