Louis Blanc (1811/3–82)

French socialist. Founded the Journal du progrès in 1839. Published his first book, Organisation du travail, in 1840. Made member of provisional French government in February 1848. Forced into exile, living in London, after the riots in Paris of May 1848. Returned to Paris and re-entered French political life in 1870.
