Edward Gibbon Wakefield (1796–1862)

Colonial statesman. Imprisoned, 1826–9, for abducting an heiress. A founder of the New Zealand Association, 1837. Director of the New Zealand Land Company, 1840. Settled in New Zealand in 1853.
