Friedrich Martin Josef (Friedrich) Welwitsch (1806–72)

Austrian-born botanist. Resided in Lisbon, 1839–53, where he became director of the botanic garden at Coimbra. Collected and travelled in Portuguese West Africa (Angola), 1853–61. Resided in London, 1863–72.
