Hendrik Weyenbergh (1842–85)

Dutch-born physician and zoologist in Argentina. MD, Amsterdam, 1863. Doctorate in zoology, Universities of Utrecht and Göttingen, 1871. Appointed professor of zoology and comparative anatomy, University of Córdoba, Argentina, 1871. Founded the Sociedad Entomológica Argentina, and was its first director and president, 1874; transformed this into the Sociedad Zoológica Argentina, 1875. Founder of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, and professor of anatomy and histology, 1878. President of the Academia Nacional de Ciencias of Argentina. Returned to the Netherlands in 1884.
