Karl Ludwig Willdenow (1765–1812)

German botanist and pharmacist. Studied medicine at the University of Halle, 1785–9; ran the family pharmacy, 1790–8. Professor of natural history at the Royal College of Medicine and Surgery, Berlin, 1798. Principal botanist, Berlin Academy of Science, and curator of the botanical gardens, 1801. Appointed professor of botany, University of Berlin, 1810.
