William John Wills (1834–61)

Explorer, surveyor, and astronomer. Studied medicine in London before emigrating to Australia in 1852. Assistant at the astronomical and magnetical observatories in Melbourne. In 1860, accompanied Robert O’Hara Burke’s ill-fated expedition attempting to cross the continent from south to north
