Frederick Greenwood (1830–1909)
Author and newspaper editor. Editor of the Queen, an illustrated paper, 1861–3. Director, with G. H. Lewes, of the Cornhill Magazine, 1862–4; sole editor from 1864. Editor of the Pall Mall Gazette from its inception in 1865 until 1880, leaving when the new proprietor announced his intention of turning the paper into a Liberal organ (Greenwood had strong Tory sympathies).
