Mary Everest Boole (1832–1916)

Writer and educator. Daughter of Thomas Roupell Everest, vicar of Wickwar, Gloucestershire, and his wife Mary Ryall. Educated privately in France. In 1852, studied calculus with George Boole, whom she married in 1855. Librarian, Queen’s College, London, 1865–73. Secretary to the doctor and philosopher James Hinton from 1873. Popular writer on mathematics and philosophy. Originator of Boole’s Sewing Cards, an aid in teaching geometry. Many of her works focused on the psychology of learning.
