Curator and editor. BA, Cambridge (Trinity College), 1867; fellow of Trinity College, 1868. Slade Professor of fine art, 1873–85. Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, 1876–84. Keeper of the prints and drawings, British Museum, 1884–1912. Edited the Works and Letters of his friend Robert Louis Stevenson, and the Letters of John Keats. Author of A life of Keats. Knighted, 1912.
