Friedrich Christian (Friedrich) Diez (1794–1876)

German philologist. Lectured on Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese at the University of Bonn; professor extraordinarius, 1823; professor, 1830. Wrote on the troubadours, and with his three-volume Grammatik der romanischen Sprachen (1836–43), became the founder of Romance philology.
