John Sullivan Dwight (1813–93)

American music critic. Graduated from Harvard College, 1832; Harvard Divinity School, 1836. His views on music were based on a combination of associationist philosophy and transcendentalism. Founded Dwight’s Journal of Music in 1852; sole editor until 1881.
