Louis Sulpice (Louis) Bouton (1799–1878)

Mauritian botanist. Collected widely in Mauritius. Helped found the Société d’histoire naturelle (later the Société royale des arts et sciences), 1821; secretary, 1839–78. Through the society, influenced development of botany, zoology, and economic forestry in Mauritius. Wrote on local medicinal plants.
