Johann Friedrich Herbart (1776–1841)

German philosopher and teacher. Professor extraordinarius of philosophy and education, Göttingen, 1805–9; professor at Königsberg, 1809–33; professor of philosophy, Göttingen, from 1833. At Königsberg, started an educational institute and an experimental boarding school.
