Edward Jarvis (1803–84)
American psychiatrist and statistician. BA, Harvard College, 1826; MD, Harvard Medical School, 1830. Practised psychiatry in Massachusetts, 1830–7; in Louisville, Kentucky, 1837–42; in Dorchester, Massachusetts, from 1842. Assisted in the preparation of the censuses for 1850, 1860, and 1870. Wrote on the relationship between the social and physical environment and morbidity.
