Ferdinand Keller (1800–81)

Swiss archaeologist. Teacher at the Industrieschule in Zürich from 1831. Founder and first president of the Gesellschaft für vaterlandische Altertümer (later Antiquarische Gesellschaft), 1832. Honorary D. Phil., University of Zürich, 1847. Editor of Anzeiger für schweize Altertumskunde, 1869–79. Best known for his discovery of ancient lake dwellings at Obermeilen and for his numerous publications on the subject.
