Antoine Charles (Charles) Lemaire (1800–71)

French botanist. Studied at Paris and became professor of classical literature there before turning to botany. Edited horticultural and botanical journals from 1835, notably L’Illustration Horticole, 1854–68. In Belgium, circa 1854–69. Published works on cacti and other succulent plants.
