Carl Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig (1816–95)
German physiologist. Studied medicine at Marburg and Erlangen. Professor of anatomy and physiology, University of Zurich, 1849–55. Professor of physiology and zoology, Josephinum medico-military academy, Vienna, 1855–65. Professor of physiology, University of Leipzig, from 1865. Founded the Physiological Institute at Leipzig in 1865. Developed instruments for recording physiological processes.
