Charles Beard (1827–88)

Unitarian minister, scholar, and journal editor. Studied in Manchester, London, and Berlin. Assistant and then pastor, Hyde Chapel, Gee Cross, Cheshire, 1850–67; pastor, Renshaw Street Chapel, Liverpool, 1867–88. Wrote for the Daily News and Liverpool Daily Post. Helped to found University College, Liverpool. Editor of the Theological Review, 1864–79.
