Carl Robert Romanovich von der Osten Sacken (1828–1906)

Russian entomologist and diplomat. Joined the Russian diplomatic corps in 1849. Russian consul-general in New York City, 1862–71. Most of his entomological work was on flies and mosquitoes; published major surveys of the Diptera of North America. Returned to Europe in 1877.
