Henry Spencer Palmer (1838–93)

Soldier and surveyor. Trained at the Royal Military Academy at Woolwich, 1856; at the School of Military Engineering at Chatham, 1857–8. Undertook many voyages and surveys in Canada, England, and the Sinai peninsula. Leader of the British Expedition to observe the transit of Venus in New Zealand, 1874.
