Economist. BA (Worcester College), Oxford, 1825; MA, 1832. Appointed mathematical master, Rugby School, 1830–32; classical master, 1832–50. Lived in London, 1850–68. Drummond Professor of political economy, Oxford, 1868–88. Wrote articles for Fraser’s magazine, Blackwood’s, and the Contemporary Review.
