Matthew Quinn (1821–85)

Irish-born Australian bishop. Educated in Dublin and Rome. Ordained priest, 1845; doctorate in sacred theology, Pontifical Irish College, 1845. Missionary in Hyderabad, 1847–53. Vice-president, St Laurence O’Toole’s Seminary, Dublin, 1853; president, 1859. First Catholic bishop of Bathurst, Australia, 1865–85.
