Justus Ludwig Adolph Roth (1818–92)

German geologist. Studied pharmacy in Hamburg; chemistry, mineralogy, and geology at Berlin and Tübingen, then worked as an apothecary from 1844–8. Habilitated in geology, University of Berlin, 1861; extraordinary professor, 1867. Worked on volcanic and plutonic rocks.
