John Christopher Augustus (Augustus) Voelcker (1822–84)

German-born agricultural chemist. Trained as a pharmacist. PhD, Göttingen, 1846. Went to Edinburgh as assistant to J. F. W. Johnston of the Agricultural Chemistry Society of Scotland in 1847. Professor of chemistry, Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester, 1849–63. Consulting chemist to the Royal Bath and West Society from 1855; to the Royal Agricultural Society of England from 1857. Consulting chemist in London from 1863. Founder member of the Institute of Chemistry of Great Britain and Ireland, 1877. FRS 1870.
