Swinburne Ward (1829/30–85)

Colonial civil servant. Entered the Admiralty, 1847; private secretary to the secretary to the Admiralty, 1849–55; private secretary to the governor of Ceylon (Sri Lanka); appointed private secretary to the governor of Madras, 1860; civil commissioner of the Seychelles, 1862–8; auditor-general of Mauritius, 1868–76.
