Eugen Franz von Gorup-Besanez (1817–78)

Austrian chemist. Studied medicine in Vienna, Padua, Munich, and Bamberg, 1836–43. MD 1842. Privat-dozent, medical faculty, Erlangen, 1846; professor extraordinarius, organic chemistry, 1849. Professor of chemistry, philosophical faculty, University of Erlangen, 1855. Worked on the metabolic processes, the effect of enzymes in plants, and the influence of ozone on organic substances.
