James Hilton (1815–1907)

Stockbroker and philanthropist. Resident in London. Member of the Royal Archaeological Institute, from 1865. Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. Sat on the committee of the Church Building Society. Member of the Egypt Exploration Fund. Member of the Royal Microscopical Society; donated his extensive collection of microscope slides to the society in 1906. Bequeathed other collections to the British Museum.
