Carl Schmidt (1822–94)

Latvian-born chemist. Studied in Giessen with Justus von Leibig and acted as his assistant in 1844. Collaborated with Friedrich Bidder on studies of nutrition from 1847. Professor of chemistry at Dorpat (Tartu) University, 1851–91.
