Catholic theologian and journal editor. Lecturer in mathematics and logic, Balliol College, Oxford, 1834–45. Converted to Catholicism, 1845. Lecturer in dogmatic theology at the Roman Catholic seminary, St Edmund’s Hall, 1852–8. Editor, Dublin Review, 1863–78.
