Karl Hermann Konrad (Hermann) Burmeister (1807–92)

German zoologist, ethnographer, and geologist. Published extensively on entomology. Professor of zoology, University of Halle, 1837–61. Travelled in Brazil, 1850–2; Argentina, 1857–60. Director of the Museo Nacional in Buenos Aires, 1861–80.
