Philip Harwood (1811–87)

Unitarian minister and journal editor. Started the divinity course at Edinburgh University in 1833, but left after one year. Minister of the Unitarian congregation at Bridport, Dorset, 1835–40; co-adjutor in chapel at South Place, Finsbury, London, 1840; Sunday lecturer at the Beaumont Institution, London, 1841. Subeditor of the Examiner, 1843; Spectator; Morning Chronicle, 1849. Subeditor of the Saturday Review, 1855; editor, 1868–83.
