Abdülaziz (1830–76)

Turkish ruler. Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, 1861–76. Introduced westerning reforms until 1871, after which his reign became absolutist. Deposed when he failed to control the insurrection in the Balkan districts of the Ottoman Empire. His death, a few days later, was attributed to suicide.
