Anthelme (Pomona) Thozet (1826–78)

French-born botanist, agriculturalist, and ethnographer in Australia. Left France between 1848 and 1851 and moved to Sydney. Had an estate at Rockhampton, Queensland. Researched native Australian plants with help from indigenous people of the Darumbal clans around Rockhampton. Established a plant nursery in North Rockhampton and was instrumental in developing the Rockhampton Botanic Gardens, 1861. JP, 1877.
