Dudley Ryder, 2d earl of Harrowby (1798–1882)

Politician. BA, Oxford (Christ Church), 1820. MP for Tiverton, 1819–31; Liverpool, 1831–47. Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, 1855; lord privy seal, 1855–8. President of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and prominent defender of the Church of England. Became second earl of Harrowby in 1847. FRS 1853.
