Charles Meldrum (1821–1901)

Meteorologist. MA, Marischal College, Aberdeen, 1844. Appointed to the education department, Bombay, 1846–8. Professor of mathematics, Royal College of Mauritius, from 1848. Government observer at the meteorological observatory, Port Louis, Mauritius, 1862–7. Returned to Britain in 1867. Superintendent, Royal Alfred Observatory, Pamplemousses, Mauritius, 1875–96. Worked on cyclones, rainfall, and sunspots. FRS 1876.
