John Peter Grant (1807–93)

Administrator in India and colonial governor. Joined the Bengal civil service, 1828; officiating secretary to the government, 1848; lieutenant-governor, 1859. Governor of Jamaica, 1866–74. In retirement, served as justice of the peace for Hertfordshire and Middlesex, and also for Inverness-shire.
