Henry Slade (1825/6–1905)

American medium. Best known for slate-writing. Travelled to England in 1876 and gave many readings in London. Accused of fraud and sentenced to three months’ hard labour. Left the country while the case was being appealed, and travelled to Russia, Leipzig, and Paris. Appeared before the Seybert Commission in 1885 in Philadelphia, where he was exposed as fraudulent, and was later arrested in West Virginia. In later life became alcoholic and died in a Michigan sanatorium.
