Francis Wemyss-Charteris-Douglas, Lord Elcho (1818–1914)

Politician. Educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford; BA 1841. MP for East Gloucestershire, 1841–6; for East Lothian, 1847–83. Succeeded as the eighth earl of Wemyss and the sixth earl of March in 1883. Founded and financed the Liberty and Property Defence League, opposing trade-unionism and socialism, 1882.
